Anticipated Releases: Sept – Dec

I really put off doing this post for far too long, mainly because I’ve been too lazy to go through Goodreads releases for the rest of the year and figure out which ones I am most excited for. But, I’ve gotten over that laziness and I am finally writing this post! Yay me!

I’ll start of with September releases, because at the time of me writing this it is still early September although this post won’t go up for another week. So just bear with me on that. There are some new installments to series that I am excited about but I haven’t started those series yet but just know that if there are any popular series that are getting new books that I don’t mention here, I’m still excited for them!

-SEPTEMBER-

Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer

Dexter meets This Savage Song? Ummm, hello new favorite book! This follows Nina, who sells magical body parts on the black market with her mother, until one day her mother brings home a live specimen and Nina refuses to murder them. Nina then ends up being sold herself because she is also a magical being, and will stop at nothing to escape and make sure she is never captured again. This one actually came out on September 4th, and as soon as my book buying ban is over you better believe that I will be picking this one up!

The Lost Queen by Signe Pike

38355440

An untold story about a powerful and forgotten Queen of Scotland from the sixth century? Sign me up! I don’t often get around to reading a lot of historical fiction, but it’s definitely right up there as one of my favorite genres because I always enjoy it! Add in Scotland and a tough queen (whose twin brother just so happens to be Merlin) and I am so sold! There is an early review of this book that compares it to Outlander, Camelot and Game of Thrones and that just makes me extremely excited for this book! This book was also released on September 4th. There are just so many amazing new releases this year!

Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco

30375937

I absolutely adore reading about Audrey Rose and Thomas! I can’t think of a better couple than them, they help lift each other up and support each other, and they have the best chemistry ever! I’ve loved the other two books in this series and I’m really interested to see what Kerri does with Audrey and Thomas meeting Houdini! If you are interested in continuing this series, you don’t need to wait long! This comes out on September 18th!

Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton

32824058

A long time ago, a village made a pact with the devil. To make sure that they prosper, they will sacrifice a woman when the Slaughter Moon rises. Then one year the moon rises early, and a witch, a saint, and an outcast have to fulfill the bargain. But they learn that the Devil isn’t what they expect and they start to uncover lies about their town. This sounds so creepy and dark and I am so here for it! If this one sounds interesting to you, it comes out on September 18th!

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White

38255342

This sounds like such an interesting twist on the original Frankenstein story! Kiersten also wrote And I Darken, which I really enjoyed but I haven’t continued on with that series yet. This looks like it is a standalone about a girl who befriends Victor Frankenstein and has to try her hardest to stay alive, because even though she and Victor are inseparable, he is still dangerous. This book releases on September 25th!

The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

37854049

This sounds like it will be so good! Following two sisters who find out that their parents can shapeshift into a bear and a swan, they realize that the old fairy tales are actually true. Eventually, a group of mysterious men come to their village and the sisters have to band together to save their village from dark forces. This just sounds like it is going to be so dark and mysterious, and I’m really intrigued and can’t wait to pick it up! Plus, how gorgeous is that cover? This comes out on September 25th.

For a Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig

36220335

Yet another September 25th release, this one follows a young woman who can see the souls of the dead and binds them to puppets with her blood for her theater troupe. Of course, her talents are forbidden and after meeting a smuggler, she has to make decisions that she never thought she would face. This one sounds so freaking interesting and is inspired by Asian and French culture! Not only does it sound interesting culturally, but the main character is also bipolar. I’m so ready to see how this all plays out in this first installment in a new fantasy trilogy!

-OCTOBER-

Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd

37570566

On October 2nd someone better send help, because there are SO MANY books being released on the 2nd that I don’t think my heart (and my wallet!) can handle it! The first of those releases is Grim Lovelies, which follows a girl named Anouk, who isn’t quite as human as she may seem. She was actually enchanted from an animal into a human, which in this world is called a Beastie. Eventually, Anouk’s mistress is killed and she is framed. Anouk then has to figure out who the real killer is before the spell fades away and she turns back into an animal. So far this has been getting a lot of hype, and it sounds really interesting!

The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox

37007910

I’m loving all of these creepy reads that are coming out this fall! This one follows the last witch left in Massachusetts – two centuries after the Salem witch trials. Three sisters move with their parents to Willow Hall, and eventually, all three sisters are changed by the dark history of their new home. I love reading witchy stories, and this one seems like it is going to be great! A witch who doesn’t know she’s a witch? Yes please!

Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep

36137560.jpg

The synopsis of this one starts off with “Gladiator meets Game of Thrones” and I think that is all I need to know about this book and I’m sold. But for those of you who want to know more, I can’t do any better job than the synopsis: “a royal woman becomes a skilled warrior to destroy her murderous cousin, avenge her family, and save her kingdom”. So basically everything that I love in a book! Less than a month until this one comes out on October 2nd!

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

38139409

Book number four that comes out on October 2nd! After reading Furyborn, I am now determined to read anything that Claire Legrand writes. The synopsis of this is very vague, but sounds like there are girls that go missing from the island of Sawkill Rock for years and are stolen by something unknown that no one has ever tried to kill, but that is all about to change. I can’t get over how creepy and dark this sounds, and if it’s half as entertaining as Furyborn, this could end up being one of my favorite reads of the year!

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas

33590260

I’m sure this is on a lot of people’s most anticipated lists, so I’ll keep this one short. I love the Throne of Glass series with all my heart and I am so nervous and excited to see what happens to all of my favorite characters! My heart will be broken on October 23rd.

An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason by Virginia Boecker

37678396

Yet another October 23rd release, this one follows a young woman named Katherine whose father is killed for treason. She then discovers that her father was hiding a secret from her: he was involved in a plot to kill Queen Elizabeth I. Katherine decides that, with nothing to lose, she is going to fulfill her fathers mission and kill the queen herself. This sounds like such a fun take on a historical murder mystery, and sounds like it’s everything I love in a book! You say assassins I say sorry to my wallet.

The Rain Watcher by Tatiana de Rosnay

37638024

Remember when I said that historical fiction is one of my other favorite genres? Well, I read Tatiana’s other book Sarah’s Key years ago and it was so heartbreaking and I loved it so much, so when I found out she was writing her first book in 4 years, I know I had to add it to my list. This follows the youngest son of a family that came together to celebrate a birthday in Paris when the city undergoes a natural disaster. The family has to fight to stay together against tragic circumstances. If this is anything like Sarah’s Key, I’m going to be crying through the whole book. This releases on October 23rd as well.

-NOVEMBER-

Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean

37569318

Coming out on November 6th, this looks like it is going to be a really unique fantasy! In this world, the throne is not inherited, but won. Each generation there is a competition to find the next empress, and the competitors must survive each of the seasons. Everyone is eligible except for the supernatural monsters and spirits, who the emperor is determined to destroy. Mari is a girl who wants to become empress, but she has a secret. She is able to transform into a monster and if she is caught, she will be killed. I love stories that have shapeshifters and this sounds so interesting!

Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin

39943621

The minute I heard that George had another book coming out set in Westeros, I immediately preordered it without looking at the synopsis. Now that I have, I am even more excited to get my hands on this book! This is set centuries before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the Targaryens starting with Aegon the Conqueror. I’m most excited to learn about Valyria and why it is so dangerous, where Daenerys’s dragon eggs came from, and what happened during the Dance of the Dragons! Plus, it features illustrations! I can barely contain my excitement for this book!

-DECEMBER-

I don’t have any anticipated releases for December because it looks like most of the releases are romances. So if anyone knows of any great releases coming out in December, let me know!

There we have it for my most anticipated releases for the rest of the year! What are some releases you can’t wait for? I’d love to know and maybe I’ll add them to my list!

  1. I’ve only heard of one of these before which is Fire and Blood, which I’m looking forward to reading.

Of the list, I think my favourite judging by the synopsis’ is Not Even Bones, closely followed by ‘The Witch of Willow Hall’.
