I have seen quite a few people do this blog meme that was created by Destiny over at Howling Libraries, and it looked so interesting that I jut had to give it a try! If you want to check her original post, check it out here. I’ve been wanting to purge my TBR shelf and this is giving me a great excuse to get rid of some books while showing them off!
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
THE LOWS
1. The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Lately I’ve been feeling like every YA fantasy that I read is exactly the same as the last ones I’ve read, and I’ve been finding that I don’t read as many of them as I did previously. While I’ve heard good things about this one, I just don’t have any intentions of actually picking this up.
2. Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout
To be honest, I was never really a huge fan of paranormal romances (with the exception of a few that I am really interested in). I’ve heard that this series is really cringe-y and it just doesn’t sound like something I’ll enjoy.
3. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
There was a lot of hype recently around Big Little Lies by this same author, so I picked up both books and haven’t even touched them! I may still try Big Little Lies, but The Husband’s Secret has to go!
4. Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
Originally I was really excited for this book because it sounded like it would be so immersive and unfortunately for me, it was a bit too immersive. I couldn’t follow along and the writing style and old English slang was just so difficult for me!
5. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
This is another one that a lot of people seem to like, but at this point I don’t have any intentions of reading it. I’m just not really in the mood for a sci-fi thriller, and if I’m being honest with myself, I don’t read a lot of sci-fi to begin with!
THE HIGHS
1. Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
A thief who wants to get revenge by becoming an assassin for the Queen? Plus, that thief is gender fluid and I’ve never read any book that has someone who is gender fluid as the MC, let alone a fantasy with a gender fluid MC!
2. The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins
This one was definitely a cover buy, but it’s inspired by The Singing Bone by the Grimm Brothers and I’m super intrigued! It sounds like it will be really dark and creepy.
3. Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep
Gladiator meets Game of Thrones? Yeah, that is all I really need to know to make me super excited for this one!
4. The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner
This book has been getting quite a lot of hype, and it sounds pretty interesting. It looks like it’s inspired by Russian fairytales, plus it includes shapeshifting which is one of my favorite things ever!
5. The Warded Man by Peter V Brett
If you know anything about me, you know that I am a sucker for anything high fantasy! I own this book and they seem to be a shorter length than a lot of the epic fantasies I have on my TBR, so I’m really looking forward to this one!
