TBR Lows & Highs #4

It’s Wednesday so that means I’m doing another TBR Lows & Highs post! This series has been so much fun so far and it’s really prompted me to clear out my TBR on Goodreads so it’s not extremely long. I feel like my physical TBR is almost the size of my Goodreads TBR at this point in my life, but that’s a whole other problem.

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now! (Thank you for this idea, Ari!)
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee- this one may get me a little hate, but I haven’t even picked up the first book and I honestly don’t know if I ever will. I’m just not in the mood for a YA historical contemporary type book right now, so the first book is really low on my priorities.

The Traitor Prince by C.J. Redwine – I read and really enjoyed The Shadow Queen by this author, but I haven’t read the second book yet and I don’t really think I’ll ever get to the third book. So this one is coming off the list because I just don’t think I’ll ever get to it.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray – I’ve never been into sci-fi as much as I’ve been into fantasy, and I honestly don’t really have any intentions of reading this book at this point.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon – Yes, I know its more of a modern classic and I’m trying to read more classics, but I just don’t feel drawn to this one. Of course, I could always change my mind in the future, but I think I’m safe taking this off my TBR right now.

The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett – I normally love historical fiction, and as far as that genre goes this book is fairly short. That said, this is yet another book that I don’t know if I will ever get to and with the amount of books coming in, something has to go out.

Age of Assassins by R.J. Barker – Come on say it with me: “all I need to know is that it has assassins”. Plus the tagline is “To catch an assassin, use an assassin”. Enough said!

Promise of the Wolves by Dorothy Hearst – When I saw this on Book Outlet and saw that it was like Watership Down, I decided that I needed it in my hands! One of my favorite books growing up was The Fire Bringer which is another story inspired by Watership Down, so this one has to be good too. That’s how this stuff works, right?

Athena’s Champion by David Hair and Cath Mayo – This is the only book this round that I haven’t bought (I think I buy too many books). This one comes out soon so I may actually buy it once the price drops on the used copies. It’s a fun historical fantasy take on Odysseus pre-Illiad. I absolutely love mythology, so once I saw this one I wanted to get my hands on it! Plus the cover is GORGEOUS.

Duskfall by Christopher Husberg – I blame Holly from Hollyheartsbooks for this one. I keep seeing it on her shelves in the background of her videos and when she was doing her most recent bookshelf tour, I was literally taking screenshots of each shelf just so I could add books to my TBR because we have such similar tastes in books. So thank you Holly for fueling my book buying addiction.

Valor by John Gwynne Valor by John Gwynne – This is the second book in a fantasy series that I haven’t started yet. And you may be thinking, “Katie, aren’t you taking books off your TBR from series that you own but haven’t read yet?” Yes. Yes I am. BUT this is one series that I just know that I will love so I’ll eventually own the whole series, probably before starting book 1. I know, I have a problem.

  1. I’ve actually been thinking about taking The Lady’s Guide off of my TBR, too! I read the first one and enjoyed it okay at the time, but I honestly think if I reread it right now, I wouldn’t care as much for the writing, and I didn’t like Felicity’s character in the first book.
