Sooooo….it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a book haul. The last one was actually in February, so I haven’t mentioned ANY books I’ve received since then and I’m extremely behind! There were a few bookoutlet sales in the last few months, so of course when you can get like, 20 books for $30-$40 I jumped on that! So basically what that means is that I have a TON of books to show off. To make everything a little easier, I’ll do it in sections based on genre and special editions, and the titles will link out to each books Goodreads page for a summary. Grab your snacks cause this is gonna be a long one!
Adult Fantasy
Twelve Kings in Sharakhai by Bradley P Beaulieu – I’ve seen this one multiple times but with a different cover, and I didn’t even realize that it was the same book because it had a slightly different title as well! I found this one cheap on Bookoutlet as a hardcover, so I picked it up because it sounded interesting!
With Blood Upon the Sand by Bradley P Beaulieu – This is the second book from the above series, and I picked this one up once I saw it on Bookoutlet as well. This is a fantasy set in a desert setting which I’ve been really enjoying lately.
The Women’s War by Jenna Glass – To be honest, the only thing I know about this one is that it’s a feminist fantasy where I believe women are the ones who are in charge of society, which I don’t think I’ve read before so I’m really excited!
Blackwing by Ed McDonald – This is another one that I don’t know too much about (which is actually how I like going into books) but it was recommended by an author that I absolutely love over on twitter so when I saw it was on sale on Bookoutlet, I picked it up!
Ravencry by Ed McDonald – When I went to add Blackwing to my cart, I saw the second book was also on sale for extremely cheap so I knew that I needed to pick it up while the price was good, because I have no self control.
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin – I have a bind up of Jemisin’s Inheritance Trilogy which is ridiculously huge, so I wanted to pick up something a little….less daunting. Since every book in this trilogy has won the Hugo award for three years in a row, I just knew that this was the place to start!
The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin – And yet again, because I have no self control I bought the second book in the series as well. What can I say? I have a severe book buying problem and I’m trying to work on it.
Moontide and Magic Rise by Sean Russell – Before I saw this GORGEOUS cover on bookoutlet, I had never heard of this book. Once it arrived, I realized that it’s a bind up of a duology. It looks like this duology combines magic, biology, political intrigue and possibly pirates.
Priest of Bones by Peter McLean – Quite a few of my twitter friends have read this book and I believe the second book is either coming out or just came out recently, so I decided that now is the perfect time to finally grab this one to see what it’s about!
The Traitor God by Cameron Johnston – I saw the cover of the second book and when I looked it up, I realized that the first book was one that I’ve been wanting to buy for what feels like forever. So of course, I went and picked it up and I’m actually about halfway through this one and it’s been really fun so far!
Self Published Fantasy
The Written by Ben Galley – I’ve had this one on my TBR for literally forever, then when I was asked to review this book I thought that the cover looked familiar. When I realized that it was already on my TBR, I knew that I needed to go and buy a copy. Spoiler alert: I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Servant of Rage by A.Z. Anthony – I saw this synopsis while browsing Goodreads and thought that the idea of killing another heir to claim their power but at the risk of uncontrollable fits of violence sounded so interesting!
The Tainted Crown by Meg Crowley – This book was included in my Self Published Fantasy on my TBR blog post (which you should really check out!) and I have slowly been adding them to my physical TBR. This book has dragons, epic quests, and magic and sounds like that classic fantasy that I absolutely love!
YA Fantasy
Gilded Cage by Vic James – This one is set in modern day England with magic, and I while I don’t often read urban fantasy, this one seemed short enough that it wouldn’t be horrible if I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hope I do!
Tarnished City by Vic James – And of course I picked up the second book as well, because if I do end up liking the first book, I already have the second book to continue on with the series!
The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands – I believe this one falls on the younger side of YA which I again don’t often read, but it sounds like an interesting magical, mysterious historical fiction book!
Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves – The third book in this series came out recently and I’ve been seeing it all over social media, so when I saw the first book for cheap on Bookoutlet I decided to give it a go!
The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell – This is one of those books that makes a ton of peoples favorites lists as well as underrated reads lists, and a lot of the people who have loved this have the same tastes when it comes to YA fantasy so I’m excited to see where this one goes! The first 10 pages were pretty similar to The Diviners, which is a good sign since I adored The Diviners!
Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan – I was so excited for this book that I preordered a copy even though I knew it would be coming in the April Owlcrate, but I wanted to have both covers so I now have two copies. I don’t mind that though because I did really enjoy this book even though the ending was a little confusing.
Vicious and Vengeful by V.E. Schwab – I’ve been slowly working my way through Schwab’s works (I’ve read the Shades of Magic series and This Savage Song so far) and when I saw these fairly expensive editions ON SALE at bookoutlet I just knew that I would never find these books for that price ever again.
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He – I’ve been in this mood lately for Asian inspired fantasy, and with all the hype surrounding this book I decided to give it a go. I ended up really enjoying this murder mystery set in a fantasy setting so much!
The Candle and the Flame by Nafiza Azad – Do you sense a theme with the books I’ve been getting lately? A lot of them are Asian/Middle Eastern inspired fantasies! I’m just loving the non-European fantasy that has been coming out lately and I just need more!
We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal – Again, I’ve had a theme going with my book buying lately! This was the May OwlCrate book and I’m honestly so excited that I renewed my subscription to OwlCrate because the books they’ve been including are so great! And next month’s book is another one I’m really excited for!
The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle – This is one of those fantasies that everyone read as a child….except for me. So of course, seeing it for extremely cheap on bookoutlet convinced me that it’s time that I finally read this beloved story.
Special Editions and Other Books
Throne of Glass Collector’s Edition – I’ve had this one on my wishlist since it was announced that they would be doing collectors editions, but I could never really justify spending that much money on a book that I already have a copy of. BUT THEN I SAW IT ON BOOKOUTLET. And I bought it.
A Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition – I love Game of Thrones, both the books and the TV series. I’ve actually read the currently released books in the series 3 times already, but I only own the tiny cloth leather bound editions. If you’ve ever seen those in person, they are actually smaller than mass market paperbacks. I thought it was high time that I finally own a nice edition, and what better edition than the illustrated one? Also, this was my congratulations to me present for getting a promotion at my job!
Storm Front (The Dresden Files) by Jim Butcher – Quite a few people that I am friends with love this series, but the person who really convinced me that I need to read this series was Mek from The Critiques of a Fangirl! This is proof that live tweeting your thoughts about a book can convince someone to actually pick up the book and give it a shot.
The Rain Watcher by Tatiana De Rosnay – I love historical fiction but I don’t often read it because I am so addicted to fantasy. I previously read De Rosnay’s other book Sarah’s Key and it was so emotional! When I heard that she was finally coming out with another book, I knew I wanted to read it. It’s a lot shorter than I thought it would be, but I’m hopeful that it will give me a good cry.
There we have it! I’m sure that I probably forgot some books somewhere in this post since I’ve already added all these books to my shelves, but I don’t think I missed too many. It’s hard to remember which books you got when if you don’t write that down! Maybe I need to take up my bookish bullet journal again.
