Five Star Predictions Part II

I’m hoping that by the time you are reading this, I will have actually finished and posted my results for my last five star predictions post and it will be linked here. If not, that means I’m failing as a book blogger and got screwed over by my mood reading, and went ahead with this post first before finishing the first set of predictions.ย I’m working on it. Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen books that were so large and daunting! I also shouldn’t have chosen 10 freaking books for my first five star prediction post, but I was a little overexcited, especially considering I’m a mood reader and choose my books based on what I want to read at that particular moment.

The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang

41886271Reason I think it will be 5 stars: So many reviewers whose opinions that I trust have LOVED this book, so clearly I think I will love it as well. I love the idea of a woman who is returning to her days as a fighter, her son who needs to master fighting techniques to defend his homeland, and what sounds like some political intrigue. Plus, it’s a standalone which means that I won’t need to commit to YET ANOTHER series. If this ends up being a 5 star read, it will be yet another self published fantasy that makes my favorites list!

Orconomics by Zachary J Pike

51Ld2c8sHBL.jpgReason I think it will be 5 stars: This book recently won the 2018 SPFBO with a final rating of 8.65 (the next highest rating was 8.05) and it seems like everyone who reads this book loves it, including some people whose reviews I trust. It’s also shelved under both fantasy and humor on Goodreads, and I love a good humorous and sarcastic fantasy! Plus, the name of the second book makes me laugh every time I see it because of the play on words: Son of a Liche!

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

42201395Reason I think it will be 5 stars: I’ve had this one on my Goodreads TBR since I heard about the book back in December 2018, and then with all the rave early reviews I was even more excited. Then it came in my June OwlCrate box with it’s GORGEOUS purple special edition cover and I of course got even more excited! I love the idea of a library full of magical books, and while I never read Margaret’s other book An Enchantment of Ravens, I have high hopes for Sorcery of Thorns.

The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen

36483378__SX318_Reason I think it will be 5 stars: I have had this one preordered since literally some time in 2018! I think the premise sounds really unique with these different castes based off birds and each caste has it’s own form of magic. It sounds dark and twisted, and the early sneak peak at the first chapter or so was fantastic, especially if the first line stays the way it is in that sneak peak: “Pa was taking too long to cut the boys’ throats.” Sounds like something I’ll love!

Fate of the Fallen by Kel Kade

36452106__SY475_Reason I think it will be 5 stars: I first heard of this book from Holly over at Holly Hearts Books (at this point I think I’m playing the how-many-times-can-I-name-drop-Holly game) and because we like the same kinds of fantasy, I immediately went to Goodreads to check out the synopsis and it sounds right up my alley. It sounds like it will start with the age old trope of the Chosen One (one of my favorites!) who is destined to fulfill a prophecy. But what if that prophecy fails and evil wins? By the synopsis, it sounds like it will be a multiple POV book following the Chosen One who is eager to save the world, and his best friend who just wants to be alone and go home.

Here’s hoping I can get through these 5 faster than the last set of 10 that I said would be 5 stars. What books do you think will be five stars? Do you think any of these would be 5 stars for me if you’ve read them?

  1. There’s a couple in your list that I hadn’t heard of and need to check out myself. I never requested Merciful Crow on Netgalley because I was afraid I had too many on my list – but I keep hearing good things and now I’m kicking myself for not trying.

  2. I hope you love all of these!! I’m also super interested in reading Sorcery of Thorns – magical libraries sound right up my alley ๐Ÿ˜„ And I just finished The Merciful Crow, and though it wasn’t 5 stars for me, I still quite enjoyed it and I’m sure you will too!! (Wow, I just realized that the authors of both of those books have the same name as me)

    1. OMG that is so funny! I don’t think I’ve ever read anything from an author with the same name as me before lol. Magical libraries does sound like a book lovers dream doesn’t it?
