Yes, it’s March and I’m still talking about 2020 reading goals. My reading in 2020 so far has been going great (in fact, I’m 8 books ahead of my reading goal so far) so what better way to use my reading momentum than to catch up on some series that I’ve been neglecting? I only want to keep this to a handful of series, because if I talked about all the series I need to complete we would be here all day. So
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
I’ve been reading this series for the first time as an adult, and the last book that I read was The Titan’s Curse so I only have The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian to go! I’ve been listening to this series on audiobook, and as an adult reading these for the first time, I find that I’m enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. It should be a piece of cake to finish the last two books this year! I haven’t written any reviews for this series yet as I want to do a full series review once I’ve finished all the books.
Ash Princess Trilogy
I read the first book in this trilogy earlier this year and really enjoyed it, and I already have the second book, Lady Smoke, waiting for me on my Kindle. The third and final book Ember Queen just recently came out in February so I can easily just read straight through this series! I really liked Theodosia as a character, and I think that this world holds promise and can really be something great for the YA fantasy genre. If you are interested in my full thoughts, I do have a review for Ash Princess that you can check out!
Vampire Academy
This is one of the few series on this list where I have quite a few books to read. This is a 6 book series and I’ve only read the first book, but with how quickly I read the first book I’m sure I can fly through the rest of the series. I’ve owned these books for quite a long time but I’m only just now getting around to reading them, mainly because they were once really popular and I completely missed the boat so I want to see why everyone loved this series so much! Plus it’s been a while since I’ve read a good vampire series, so I think I’m due for a nice long series.
Spellslinger
I read the first book in this series last year and started reading Shadowblack which is book 2, but like so many other things, I got distracted and never finished the book. The sixth and final book in this series, Crownbreaker, came out last year so I could potentially binge this series and get it all finished! I love the way that this series feels like a magical western, which is something that I don’t read very often. I know a lot of people love this series and I thought that the first book had a lot of promise, so I hope that I can say that this series is a new favorite soon!
Illuminae Files
This series is one of the few that I can get a book finished in a day because they’re so action packed and you just can’t put them down, then all of a sudden you turn the page and it’s the end of the book! I only have the third and final book Obsidio left to read, and to be completely honest I’ve been putting it off because I don’t want this series to end and I’m a little nervous about what will happen to these characters that I’ve grown to love. But it should be a walk in the park to get this book finished this year.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy
I binged the first two books in this series back to back last year, but then I lost momentum part of the way through Dreams of Gods and Monsters. I got really nervous about how this series would end, so I decided to put it off and I really do regret that now, as I feel like I’m a little hazy on the details about everything that happened previously. I just want to be able to complete as many series as I can so that I can cross them off my list!
Three Dark Crowns
I binged the first three books and the two novellas two years ago, and I was so excited for the final book Five Dark Fates to come out, but I still haven’t read it! I love each of the three queens for different reasons, but my favorite is hands down Arsinoe. Now the question is, do I buy the final book physically to complete the series that I have on my shelves, or do I read it digitally?
Mistborn
Technically, I’ve already read the first book The Final Empire, but for some reason I never continued the series even though I love Brandon Sanderson’s writing! So my goal is to re-read the first book and then complete the series this year. It should also be easier because this time I won’t be reading the tiny mass market paperbacks, but the full sized paperbacks! I love how unique this magic system is, and from what I’ve heard from people who have completed the series the final book is really emotional.
Truly Devious
I read the first book in this series physically, but then I discovered Scribd and listened to the second book The Vanishing Stair on audio! I’ve been enjoying this series so much, now I just need to listen to the final book The Hand on the Wall! I think this series is fun and quick to read, and I love the character of Stevie so much, she has so many characteristics that I also have! I also love the mystery in this series and I love trying to figure it all out before the characters do (which I haven’t done so far).
The Queens of Renthia
This is one of my favorite underrated fantasy series ever! The series starts with The Queen of Blood which I absolutely adored because Daleina is just a normal girl who gets pulled into a fight for the throne and deadly spirits and goes through life firmly in the middle of the pack – not super powerful but not useless. I loved the second book The Reluctant Queen as well because it introduces more characters and explores the world more, and also introduces something that I don’t often see in fantasy when it comes to the rulers of this country. but now I just need to finish the final book, The Queen of Sorrow and just based on the title alone I’m a little nervous for these characters!
What are some series that you want to catch up on this year? I’d love to chat!
