2019 Reading Goals

Blogging has been really super difficult lately because my laptop isn’t working and I’ve been trying to write blog posts on my phone, which is NOT FUN. But I’m finally getting around to writing up my 2019 reading goals!

1. Complete series that I have on my shelves

There are a few series that I have on my shelves that I’ve been putting off, whether that’s because they are insanely long or I know I’ll love them but was afraid to read them. Those series are: The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, the Strange the Dreamer duology, Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne, the Chaos Queen series, and The Witcher series. If I can, I would like to finish more series than this, but these are the main series that I have that I have owned for a while and really want to read. I just have far too many series that have been left unread.

2. Read 50 books

I talked about the Goodreads challenge in a previous discussion post, and mentioned how I really didn’t like it putting pressure on me to read more and more. I had my goal at 75 last year and while I easily hit that, I don’t want to stress myself out trying to hit it again this year, especially with a new puppy taking up a lot of my time that I would normally spend reading. Because of that, I decided that 50 should be a good amount.

3. Write blog posts consistently again

I used to be really good at sticking to my Monday-Wednesday-Friday blog schedule, but again, once I got the puppy the time I had to write blog posts was limited to when he was sleeping, and I had to prioritize things like cleaning while he was sleeping. I’m hoping that as he gets older, I will have more time to spend writing and reading. Right now my posts are just whenever I have the time to finish them!

4. Buy less books

Again, this goal is because of the puppy. I want to be able to give him everything he needs and spending all my extra cash on books isn’t going to work with that. So, I want to buy fewer books this year. I know I won’t be able to completely stop buying books, so I want to limit myself to new releases that I’m really interested in and continuations in series that I’ve already started. That means no buying books in series that I own but haven’t read yet, which is a problem for me.

5. Review more

I originally started this blog with the intention of reviewing books, and I feel like recently I’ve not been doing that. I want to go back to writing more reviews on the books that I read instead of just saying that I read them and mentioning them in tags!

6. Donate old books

I literally have two stacks of books almost as tall as my bookshelves waiting to either be sold or donated. I did have a depop shop to sell some of them since a lot of them are exclusive covers and are brand new, but not a lot of people were interested in buying them. I do want to donate some, but if anyone has any suggestions for selling books let me know! I unfortunately don’t have a bookstore near me that buys used books for store credit, which is a shame. Come on, Central PA!

What are some of your goals for 2019? Do we have any of the same goals?

These are some really great goals and I hope you accomplish all you wish to in 2019! Also, oh no! I’m sorry to hear your laptop isn’t working–writing blog posts on the phone is SO FRUSTRATING.

Ugh I know! I’m really hoping I can either get mine fixed or get a new one. All I really need is a chromebook, no bells and whistles!

I’m with you there when it comes to completing a series you’ve had on your shelf. I need to do the same for ALL of Cassandra Clare’s books and Strange the Dreamer. It’s so hard to decide what to read when there’s just so many books out there to read haha!

It really is! Especially when you find older series too and buy the first book then realize it’s the first of a 15 book series 😂

These are some awesome goals! I’m also hoping to finish some series this year that I’ve been putting off – I’m in the process of finishing the Strange the Dreamer duology right now!

I liked the first book and lot, and I’m just a bit into the second one and still formulating my opinion 😉

I’m super excited (but scared) to start the first one! But I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, so I know I like her writing.

Good luck with all these! I have a big problem with series as well. I’m such a commitment phobe!

😂😂 my issue is that I’m afraid I won’t like them as much as I think I will so I put them off!

Literally all of your goals are on my own 2019 goals list haha–the main thing I want to do is just cut down the number of unread books I have on my shelves!

Ugh yes! I’m just struggling with my read books vs bought books right now. I’m buying faster than I can read!
